The First Step in Sharing Our Faith

Passage: 1 Peter 3:14-15

Speaker: Steven Cooper

Series: Share: Practical Steps for Living on Mission

Category: Sermon

The first step in sharing your faith is not about what you share, but who you love. This verse teaches that honoring Christ the Lord as holy is inseparable from defending your faith to others. We honor Jesus as holy by living as though what He wants is more important than anything else—more important than our sin, our desires, our goals, or our fears. As we do this, we experience more of Jesus—we draw near to Him, and He draws near to us. Believing and living out the gospel in our own lives prepares us to share with others the hope we have in Jesus.

  1. What things would change in your life if you were to honor Christ the Lord as holy (holy = special and of first importance)? Write out your thoughts privately; share with the group if you wish.
  2. Summarize the hope you have because of Jesus.
  3. How might honoring Jesus as holy affect the hope that you just shared about (see 1 Pet 3:15)?
  4. Help each other follow through on doing this week's homework.

  1. Write your testimony. Summarize how you became a Christian, and what difference Jesus makes in your life.
  2. Contact and thank someone who has helped you on your spiritual journey.

SCRIPTURE 1 Peter 3:15:
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.
