Your Stories Are Your Light

Passage: Matthew 5:14-16

Speaker: Steven Cooper

Series: Share: Practical Steps for Living on Mission

Category: Sermon

Message SUMMARY:

Jesus calls us to live in ways that shine the light of God’s goodness and grace. Jesus wants us to share our faith with others so that they will see our lives and give glory to our Father in heaven. Faith flags are practical ways to identify ourselves as spiritual. Faith stories are practical ways for us to help people know what it’s like to have a real relationship with God. Sharing faith flags and stories in our long term relationships is the best way to spark curiosity toward Jesus with our neighbors at home, work, and in our communities.

  1. How did you do with the homework for last week (Hearing the story of and sharing your story with a Christian and a non-Christian)?
  2. How do our stories of experiencing God enable us to shine as the light of the world?
  3. What are faith flags? Why are they useful in sharing our faith? Share an example of a faith flag.
  4. What are faith stories? Why are they useful in sharing our faith? Share a faith story that is meaningful to you.
  5. How could living as though Jesus were the most important person in your life create new faith stories?

  1. Write out 3 faith flags.
  2. Write out 3 faith stories.

Scripture (Romans 1:18-25):

14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
