The book of Hebrews begins with the audacious claim: Jesus is God’s last word. Jesus is God’s last word because he is the one who brings together all of the voices of the Old Testament. Jesus is God’s last word because he is the divine Son - God himself speaking to us. With this claim comes a question: Are we listening?

In this week’s message, we continue to see the supremacy of Jesus over the angels. Jesus is crowned with glory and honor because he humbled himself and became lower than the angels by taking on human flesh.

Superior to the Angels (Hebrews 1:5-2:4)

In this week’s sermon, we begin exploring the first of four comparisons that the pastor makes in his sermon. Jesus is superior to the angels. Jewish tradition taught that angels delivered the word of God to Moses on Mt. Sinai. Since Jesus is superior to the angels, this means that the message he brings is superior to the message they brought. If Israel was warned not to ignore the words given to Moses, how much more should we pay careful attention to the word given to us by Jesus?
