Broken Leaders

Passage: Romans 5:12

Speaker: Steven Cooper

Series: Romans 6: Far as the Curse is Found

Category: Sermon

12/3/17 Broken Leader(s), Romans 5:12 Jesus’ salvation in the gospel brings radical change to his followers because of what He did. This makes Him similar to Adam as a leader whose actions have radically impacted His followers. Adam’s leadership and impact were radically negative. This message highlights that Adam’s first sin brought death and brokenness into the world, and bad leaders today continue to negatively influence our lives. In our frustration over being so ill-affected by leadership influences outside of us, we cry out to God, and God’s response is Christmas. Jesus is the leader that we need, whose influence rescues us and renews us. How do we discuss this verse in a way that is helpful? What is the benefit of describing the world so negatively? How does death come from sinning against God? What does it mean that for God, “rules mean relationship?” Who are the good leaders in your life that you know influence you? Who are the bad leaders in your life that you know influence you? How is Christmas God’s answer to the problems that come from bad leadership? Practically, how do you ensure that Jesus’ leadership influences you? In living out our church’s value of being Gospel-Centered, how does this verse lead us to understand Jesus’ work for us, in us, and through us?
